About Isaac

I've spent nearly thirty years and more than 30,000 clinical hours working with the human body — as a Certified Advanced Rolfer® (DIRI), a movement educator, and a lifelong martial artist.

My practice, Motion Unlimited, has been based in Santa Barbara, California for nearly three decades, focused on chronic pain, postural dysfunction, and pre- and post-surgical rehabilitation of the spine and pelvic floor.

I trained in the classical tradition of structural integration and went on to teach beginning and advanced practitioner trainings for over a decade.

That work shaped how I practice:
patiently, structurally, and with respect for what the body is already trying to do.

Over the years

I kept running into the limits of the standard mechanical model — the body as levers, pulleys, and isolated muscles. What I saw in the clinic didn't fit it. Bodies behave less like machines and more like pressurized fluid systems: contained, responsive, organized around breath. That observation became a framework, and the framework became a book. Body of Water is the result — the model I wish I'd had at the start of my career.

Alongside clinical work, I teach. I serve as visiting anatomy faculty for yoga teacher training programs, and I am a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist, Certified White Tiger Qigong Instructor, XPT Coach, and FRC Mobility Specialist. Different disciplines, same subject: how a body organizes itself under pressure — and what changes when it learns to do that better.

When I'm not in the clinic or writing, I'm usually in the water. I surf, I train, and I live in Santa Barbara with my family.
